What is Social Justice Fund NW ?
Founded in 1978, Social Justice Fund NW (formerly A Territory Resource) is an organization dedicated to addressing the root causes of social, economic, and environmental inequities. Each year, Social Justice Fund NW raises funds from its members and friends, and then grants that money to non-profit social justice organizations in the Northwest and Northern Rockies. Using an extensive, thoughtful process, we annually give over $720,000 to strategic and effective community-based organizations in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. Our approach allows you to assist many different social change causes with a single contribution backed by the experience and research of our staff and members.

What makes Social Justice Fund NW different and important?
- Most foundations are extremely reluctant to fund social justice work for real democracy. We aren’t.
- Most foundations and individuals fund only temporary services (shelter, food, healthcare, etc.), but we fund activist efforts to make long-term changes in society that will permanently end inequalities.
- Your contribution is pooled with those of others. The effect is a donation big enough to make social justice groups capable of accomplishing great things.
- We find and screen social justice organizations that you probably won’t find on your own. These are the groups doing the best work for real democracy in our region.
Who are Social Justice Fund NW members?
Members are:
- Working-class people and activists donating $20 per month because they believe in creating a lasting, broad-based movement for real democracy.
- Middle-class people with the courage to invest in the grassroots organizing that will produce long-term social change.
- People with wealth who are determined to be catalysts for change at a time when the Right is trying to consolidate power and strip people of dignity and rights.
- Becoming a member means you will receive informative updates about the struggles and successes for real democracy in our region. You will become eligible to participate in the committees that make granting decisions and eligible to make site visits to organizations applying for funding.
Members also enjoy opportunities to attend speaker events, workshops, collaboratively chart the direction of Social Justice Fund’s future, and meet engaged, committed people like yourself—and people who are very different from you but who share your vision of a more just society.
