Now Hiring: Membership Support Associate
Social Justice Fund is a member-funded foundation that supports the creation of a just society through fundraising, grantmaking, and member involvement. The foundation provides essential resources to organizations in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming to strengthen grassroots efforts in the broad-based movement for progressive, systemic social change.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE and Function Summary
The staff of five currently includes: Executive Director, Program Director, Grants Manager, Development Associate, and Office Manager. The Membership Support Associate would be a new position, responsible for being the primary contact with Social Justice Fund Members, developing new members, and coordinating events. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Membership Support Associate will develop current and prospective members. This includes:
- Connect membership with one another other, staff, volunteers and grantees in order to develop peer learning and interest networks that support SJF’s mission.
- In collaboration with Development Associate -- coordinate monthly member development and renewal communications (letter, phone calls and e-mail) and follow-up.
- Coordinate targeted member and funding drives such as annual dinner, phone-a-thon and direct mail campaigns.
- In collaboration with Office Manager -- develop, coordinate and maintaining electronic communications systems including newsletter, board website, members virtual community, virtual networking communities (e.g.: Facebook and My Space) and webinars.
- Assist Executive Director and board in coordination and tracking board and committee assignments.
- Coordinate membership benefits. In close coordination with Grants and Program staff assist current and prospective members to better understand and participate in SJF’s work.
- Responds to member questions and helps to recruit members into SJF’s program and granting activities.
- Assist Executive Director and media consultants to develop written publications including but not limited to the annual report, member and grantee profiles and marketing materials.
- Assist Executive Director in prospecting communicating and following-up with major donors and their requests.
- Develop and coordinate donor and membership events including but not limited to: the annual dinner, house parties, trainings, grant meetings, focus groups and learning tours.
- Assist Funding Associate in the development of Major Donor Profiles and Briefs for use by Executive Director, Development Committee and the Board.
- Event planning and support including logistics for site-visit, grant and board meetings.
- Supports Office Manager and Program Staff during high activity periods.
- Assist Funding Associate with data entry as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Very strong English oral and written communications skills (editing experience a plus)
- Ability to build rapport and strengthen relationships through written and oral mediums
- Experience working in diverse communities (race, culture, and economic)
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues
- Strong computer skills (web, Excel, Word, databases)
- Ability to complete tasks with limited supervision—extremely organized and detail oriented
- Event planning and coordination experience
- Good fiscal, time-management, and project management skills
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to work as part of a high-functioning team
- Fundraising and community organizing experience a plus
- Commitment to and ability to articulate Social Justice Fund values and mission.
