Social Justice Fund Northwest is a member-funded and member-driven organization that relies on the support of our community to achieve our mission.

The best way to engage with the Social Justice Fund is to get involved by joining one of our committees, going on a site visit, attending an event, helping out in the office, or hosting a gathering- the possibilities are endless!

Join a Committee!

The Social Justice Fund is a member-funded and member-driven foundation that relies on the support of our community to achieve our mission. 

One of the best ways to become active with the Social Justice Fund NW is to join a committee. There are open positions available on committees for both members and for people who would like to volunteer without becoming a member.

Not a Member? Join our Events Committee:

Events Committee: Join this committee and help design our major events in 2010, including but not limited to the Annual Dinner (October) and Friendraiser (August).  All volunteers are welcome.

The following committees are open to members only:

Board of Directors: Governs, sets policy and direction and assumes fiscal and grantmaking responsibility for the foundation. Hires and supervises the Executive Director. To serve, member must have served actively on a Social Justice Fund NW committee and/or demonstrated long term community organizing experience, financial expertise, and fundraising. All Board members are expected to assist in fundraising.

Finance Committee: Oversees the investment policies and accounts of the Endowment, and recommends fiscal policy to the Board, working with the Board Treasurer (Committee Chair) and staff.

Site Visits

Site Visits

One of the most exciting ways to get involved with the Social Justice Fund is to go on a site visit to meet with progressive activists working on the frontlines of grassroots social change. 

We are 1 year into our Civic Action Initiative and so excited to see social change in our region, thanks to the hard work of our grantees. Now is the time to visit with them to hear more details in person! As a member of Social Justice Fund, you are eligible to come with us on site visits. Will you join us? 

Washington site visits will be scheduled for August 9th & 10th.
Oregon site visits will be scheduled for August 16th & 17th.
Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana site visits will be scheduled to happening at CSTI in Portland, OR, July 30th – August 1st.

Statewide Poverty Action NetworkSeattle, WA

The Statewide Poverty Action Network (Poverty Action) builds grassroots power to end causes of poverty and to create opportunities for everyone to prosper. Poverty Action works on engaging, empowering and mobilizing people with low incomes to take meaningful civic action to influence policy decisions that address the root causes of poverty. They organize around electoral and legislative campaigns wand use the media to reframe the debate around poverty.

 

The Win/Win NetworkGranger, WA

The Win/Win Network’s mission is to establish collection action around a common agenda amongst Washington’s civic engagement community that includes increasing civic participation in underrepresented communities, enhancing capacity of constituent-based organizations, and implementing long-term strategies for socially responsible policies.

 

Washington Community Action NetworkSeattle, WA

The mission of Washington CAN is to achieve economic fairness in order to establish as democratic society characterized by racial and social justice, with respect for diversity, and a decent quality of life for those who reside in Washington State. Washington CAN’s civic engagement work increases the political power of low-income communities and communities of color, and builds the skills, relationships, and organizational capacity that is needed to challenge institutional racism and economic inequality.

 

Partnership for Safety and JusticePortland, OR

The Partnership for Safety and Justice unites people convicted of crime, survivors of crime, and families of both to advance approaches that redirect policies away from an over-reliance on incarceration to effective strategies that reduce violence and increase safety. Following the successes of their recent ballot measure campaigns, the Partnership for Safety and Justice seeks to seize new opportunities to expand the scope and scale to their issue campaign work, increasing the viability of the criminal justice reform agenda.

 

CAUSA - Salem, OR

CAUSA is Oregon’s statewide, grassroots immigrant rights coalition that works to defend and advance immigrant rights through coordination with local, state, and national coalitions and allies. CAUSA organizes, educations, and mobilizes to build power in the Latino immigrant community. CAUSA’s electoral and civic engagement work is focused on voter education and engagement for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and in preparation for Oregon’s midterm elections in 2010.

 

Rural Organizing Project - Scappoose, OR

ROP is a statewide organization of locally-based groups that work to create communities accountable to a standard of human dignity: the belief in the equal worth of all people, the need for equal access to justice, and the right to self-determination. Their mission is to strengthen the skills, resources, and vision of primary leadership in local autonomous human dignity groups with a goal of keeping such groups a vibrant source for a just democracy.

 

Idaho Community Action NetworkBoise, ID

The fundamental mission of ICAN is to provide a voice for Idahoans committed to progressive social change and to develop the power necessary to create those changes. ICAN was founded in 1999 and is a membership organization that provides members with the training and tools they need to participate and have a voice in the public arena where decisions are made that affect their lives. ICAN uses citizen participation, grassroots organizing, direct actions, and other strategies to impact the decision of powerful public and private bodies.

 

Equality State Policy Center - Casper, WY

The Equality State Policy Center is a broad-based coalition of Wyoming interests that works through research, public education and advocacy to hold Wyoming state and local governments accountable to the people they represent, and to encourage and assist state residents to participate effectively in public policy decision-making. Founded in 1993, ESPC has grown to a 32-member organization that includes conservation groups, labor unions, and civic and social justice organizations.

Montana Human Rights NetworkHelena, MT

Montana Human Rights Network is a grassroots, membership-based organization with 1,400 members and seven local affiliate groups. Their mission is to promote democratic values such as pluralism, equality and justice: to challenge bigotry and intolerance, and to organize communities to speak out in support of democratic principles and institutions. A critical part of the Networks’ work is educating Montanans on social justice issues and then engaging them in the democratic process, whether that is in the form of initiative campaigns, or the public policy arena.

Social Justice Fund house parties are an opportunity for our members to introduce their friends to Social Justice Fund NW and encourage them to join our community of progressive activists.

Work with staff to design an event that helps to showcase the important grassroots organizing that is happening in the region by contacting Uma in the SJF office!
