Montana Giving Project
The Montana Giving Project will bring people together to learn about the history, present, and potential of the progressive movement in Montana, raise money by and for Montanans, and make grants to some of the most inspiring organizations in our region. Meetings will rotate between Missoula, Bozeman, and Helena.
Commitment: March 17 to July 1

Montana Giving Project 2012 Schedule
Sat. March 17 - Session #1: Introduction (10am-6pm)
- Get to know one another
- Establish commitments, expectations, and goals
- Set foundation for further trainings
Sun. March 18 (9am-4pm) - Session #2: Race and Class Analysis Workshop
- Build shared analysis of race and class
- Learn about racism and classism in context of movements for social justice
- Begin work to build a cross-class, multi-racial progressive philanthropic community
Wed. March 21 and 28 - Session #3: Panel (6pm-9pm)
- Hear from SJF grantees about their organizing, movements for social justice, and the challenges they face in getting funding
- Open to the public
Sun. April 1 - Session #4: Grantmaking and Fundraising Training (10am-5pm)
- Learn about social justice philanthropy and the SJF grantmaking process
- Decide on additional grantmaking criteria
- Learn the nuts and bolts of grassroots fundraising
- Practice with the group
- Set personal fundraising goals and accountability structures

** Participants begin reading and screening applications
Sat. June 2 - Session #6: Screening (10am-5pm)
- Decide which applicants receive site visits

- Review site visit reports
- Decide which applicants receive grants
Sun. July 1 - Session #8: Celebration & Evaluation (6pm-9pm)
- Celebrate our success!
- Evaluate the process and brainstorm how to improve the model
