Dear Social Justice Fund community,

We are excited to announce some major steps in the evolution of Social Justice Fund Northwest!  

Our biggest strength is our amazing community of members and grantees.  Some donors have been loyally giving for our entire 30 year history, and some are brand new.  All of us continue to be inspired by the vision of our founders and all those that have contributed their ideals and voices to making us a better organization.  Thanks to great leadership, we’ve spent our entire history reinventing ourselves to remain at the forefront of social justice philanthropy.  We’ve taken bold steps towards hope, inclusiveness, racial justice, and harnessing the power of community.

The participants of the Next Generation Giving Project are hard at work this week reviewing the more than 60 proposals that came in from prospective grantees.  While they are busy, I wanted to share a short video with you that was filmed at a house party of June 18th.  That day, the participants brought together friends and family to raise funds for the project.

UmaAt the end of June, over 23,000 activists and organizers gathered in Detroit for the US Social Forum. Zeke Spier and I were among the participants in the Funders Delegation, hosted by the Funders Network for Transforming the Global Economy.  The Funders Delegation included representatives from a range of social justice philanthropies including funding exchanges like The North Star Fund, large, major agencies like the Ford Foundation as well as donor organizers from Resource Generation.
